Priorities

Delaware and our country face big challenges. Costs are too high. It’s getting even harder to access quality, affordable health care. Families are feeling the squeeze when they go to the grocery store, plan for their kids’ future, and look ahead to retirement. 

Trump is making it worse. His so-called Big Beautiful Bill slashed access to Medicaid, jeopardizing the health care of thousands of Delawareans. His unlawful tariffs spiked the costs of everyday expenses, making life even harder for families trying to get by. Around the world, Trump is making us less safe by alienating our allies and pushing them closer to China’s sphere of influence.

We need to be clear-eyed about what it will take to get America back on track and give Americans peace of mind about their future. That means focusing on Opportunity, Security, and Justice.

Opportunity

Chris believes that in order for our country to succeed, we need a strong floor and no ceiling, so every Delawarean has the opportunity to build a better future for them and their family. 

Affordable Housing:

Chris knows that many Delawareans are struggling to afford their rent or buy a home, a critical step in getting ahead. Chris is committed to finding creative ways to eliminate roadblocks to home ownership, including pushing back on Trump’s unlawful tariffs that increase building costs and drive up the costs of new homes. In the Senate, Chris is leading the way to reform rental assistance, expand homeowner incentives, and streamline complicated federal programs. Chris has secured over $100 million in federal funds to invest in affordable housing initiatives across Delaware. 

Jobs:

Chris is a leader in the Senate for investments in education and workforce training programs that make sure Americans can compete in the global economy and win the 21st century. He is relentless in advocating for American manufacturing and innovation, two pillars that have long made the United States the envy of the world. Chris also has a long record of protecting the rights and pensions of organized labor.

Health care:

Chris believes everyone should have access to quality, affordable health care, which is why he has fought against Trump’s threats to the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid. He has also worked to protect Delaware’s hospitals, reduce overcrowding in Emergency Departments, and increase access to innovative treatments.

Security

Chris believes that every Delawarean should feel safe and secure in their community. 

Public Safety:

While in county government, Chris worked closely with the second largest police department in Delaware and understands the sacrifice officers make every day. As co-chair of the Senate Law Enforcement Caucus, he has worked to increase resources for local law enforcement, enforcing stricter gun violence prevention measures, and ensuring justice and rehabilitation systems serve communities effectively.

Foreign Policy:

American foreign policy is fundamentally about ensuring our security and protecting our prosperity. That is why Chris has worked across the aisle to ensure we have the tools and strategy to compete with China and he remains committed to standing with Ukrainians in their fight for freedom. He is the senior Democrat for Defense Appropriations in the Senate, where he has delivered investments for our troops and ensured America stands ready to face the battles of tomorrow.

Addressing the Climate Crisis:

Delaware is our country’s lowest-lying state, and Chris knows that climate change represents a generational threat to our state, our country, and the entire planet. Throughout his time in the Senate, Chris has been a tireless advocate for climate solutions, and he’s been a key voice in supporting new clean energy technologies to reduce and eventually replace our reliance on fossil fuels.

Justice

Chris’ faith teaches him that without justice, nothing else is possible.

Integrity:

Too many Americans believe their government doesn’t work for them, which is why Chris is committed to leading with integrity and rebuilding a sense of fairness in our system, from holding his colleagues accountable as the Vice Chair of the Senate Ethics Committee to legislating on judicial ethics reforms.

Constitutional rights:

As a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chris is committed to pushing back on the Trump Administration’s attempts to weaponize the Department of Justice, install extreme and unqualified judges, and create a system that works for the few at the expense of the many. Chris is also a fierce defender of our constitutional rights, including protecting access to reproductive health care.   

Immigration:

Chris believes we need to focus on restoring fairness and justice to the American immigration system. That means enforcing the laws on the books and ensuring that the system isn’t run by unqualified, unaccountable federal immigration agents. He has worked throughout his career to find a path to comprehensive immigration reform and has worked to hold immigration officials to the same standards as local law enforcement. He has introduced legislation to create an oversight body to monitor abuses by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and prevent those officers from entering vulnerable locations, such as schools and hospitals.
