For Immediate Release: June 24, 2010 at 2:00 pm
(New Castle, DE) - Calling him “the best candidate to represent Delaware’s working men and women in the United States Senate,” the Communication Workers of America (CWA), the International Association of Machinists (IAM), and Sheet Metal Workers International (SMWIA) endorsed Democrat Chris Coons’ candidacy for the United States Senate.
“Chris is a hard working, experienced leader with new ideas and a commitment to creating and protecting jobs for Delaware’s working men and women,” said James Hummell, Executive President of CWA Local 13101.
“I am honored to receive support from our state’s working men and women. Together, we will fight to continue to grow our state’s economy by not only bringing new jobs to Delaware, but working to sustain quality middle class jobs that are already here,” said Coons. Joe Schorah, Business Agent of Sheet Metal Workers Local 19, added: “Chris’ involvement in reopening the General Motors plant and the Delaware City refinery saved thousands of jobs and are only the latest examples of why our membership supports his campaign for Senate. Chris has stood with us when we needed him the most and he will continue to be a voice for working families in Washington.”
The CWA, IAM, and SMWIA represent more than 8,000 members in and around Delaware, working in building and construction, manufacturing, railroads, and telecommunications. They join with the Delaware State Education Association and Teamsters Local 326 in endorsing Chris Coons for Senate. IAM, like DSEA, supported Congressman Castle in previous elections.
