Yesterday, as neighbors gathered on the street for the kickoff of the Wilmington Memorial Day Parade, I had some amazing conversations that reminded me of the importance of this day.
A man I had not met before – a lifelong Delawarean – shared with me and my kids his personal story of landing at Normandy on D-Day and fighting his way through Europe. A younger neighbor came over and joined in, sharing his father’s story of serving in WWII in China. Another neighbor told stories both poignant and funny about his military service.
It’s important that we make time to gather on Memorial Day to remember, to share stories, and to honor those who have served and those who serve today. Today, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our grateful nation.
To all of our veterans, those in our armed forces today, and military families, thank you.
